Mountain Bike Clinics & Camps

Virginia has become known for its award-winning MTB trails with three IMBA designated ride centers as well as many other parks and trails offering everything from easy downhill rides to a challenging cross-country trek. Virginia has a trail for every type of mountain bike enthusiast, from beginner to intermediate and expert.

Mountain bike skills are essential for riders of all levels to improve both technical ability and mental preparation, leading to a better experience on the bike. There are MTB programs that focus on specific skills like technical terrain or racing, offer private one-on-one coaching, or provide comprehensive multi-day camps for both youth and adults, as well as specialized events. Lessons are designed to help you ride better, faster, and more confidently, giving you the skills needed for a lifetime of enjoyment on a mountain bike.

Adult Mountain Bike Clinics, Coaching & Specialty Events

All in MTB – coaches women riders of all experience levels, from those just starting out to seasoned bikers looking to refine their technique. Coach Marlie Smith provides customized training programs tailored to your unique riding goals. Located in Chesterfield, VA.

Cutaway Bike Camp – since 2010, offers a Women’s Weekend camp held in June and July serving beginner to advanced level cyclists.

NINJA MTB – mountain bike clinics and specialty events for all levels, led by elite instructors, and clinics are held in Alexandria, Richmond and Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Peaks Coaching Group – founder, Hunter Allen, was a mountain bike racer before a road racer his first MTB race was in 1988 in Craig County, Virginia. Peaks Coaching Group has coached thousands of mountain bikers to hundreds and hundreds race wins, pro contracts, World and National Championships, 24-hour records, Leadville wins and finishes and of course ultra–endurance mountain biking.

Riverside Cycling – lessons are tailored to meet you at your current skill level and give you the confidence you need to tackle ever more challenging terrain. The instructors ride regularly in the James River Park System, Pocahontas State Park and other Richmond area trails – Personalized and Small Group skills coaching clinics are offered.

Take Aim Cycling – offers individual and group skills clinics. The focus is on progression of technical skills in an encouraging environment for your development. Private Lessons include: 2hrs of personal instruction, bike set-up, video and photo feedback, personal goal setting, take home drills to improve outside of the lesson. Leeson’s are available at Bryce Bike Park, Massanutten Western Slope, and the George Washington National Forest.

Youth Mountain Bike Camps

Cutaway Bike Camp – since 2010, has provided junior development and youth development cycling camps and has worked with over 2,000 campers to improve their skills. Camps are divided into day, overnight, and travel camps, serving ages 7 to 18 year old’s. A Women’s Weekend camp is also held in June and July serving beginner to advanced level cyclists.

Passages Adventure Camp – offers youth ages 10-16 an action-packed week Fat Tire Camp to help improve MTB skills (previous MTB experience required). There are trips to the Richmond BMX Track, Pocahontas State Park, Leakes Mill and Freedom Park in Williamsburg. Campers must bring their own mountain bike and helmet to Camp.

Steward School Summer Experience (Youth in grades 3rd – 8th) – Richmond has some of the best urban mountain biking trails around.  Over a week, campers will develop beginner and intermediate mountain biking skills, including steering, shifting, hill climbing and descending, log hopping, dodging obstacles, etiquette, maintenance, safety, and more. Camp provides bikes and helmets, but campers are also welcome to bring their own. Campers should know how to ride a bike before signing up for this camp.

Virginia Outside – the camp serves the Richmond metropolitan area and is designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 14 with prior experience riding trails confidently. Over the course of a week, campers will develop beginner and intermediate trail riding skills including: steering at higher speeds on tight trails, shifting timing, hill climbing and descending, dodging obstacles, trail etiquette, bike maintenance, riding safety and more.

Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing – serving 14- to 17-year-olds from June to August. Whether you’re a beginner looking to master the basics or an experienced rider aiming to conquer advanced trails, the one-week (Mountain Biking 101 or 201) and two-week (Ultimate Mountain Biking Camp) programs offer something for everyone. Ride through the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, improve your skills, and build lifelong friendships along the way. Camp is located in New Castle, VA.
