About Cycling VA

Hello, my name is Dan Girouard and I live in the Richmond metropolitan area.  In 2014, I started out creating an annual calendar of Century Bike Rides in Virginia and shared it with friends and posted it on a Facebook page of the same name.  I believed the Century calendar was a great way to mix my two passions – Economic Development and Cycling.  As an economic developer for over 30 years, I understand the financial impact these events can have on local communities, clubs and organizations and wanted to encourage people to try new events.

While creating the calendar, I began to realize there was so much more to cycling in Virginia, but it was hard to find the information.  So the idea came to me to showcase the diversity of cycling disciplines throughout the state and combine the information into one place for everyone to find.  However, in order to reach a larger and more diverse audience, I would need to break from Facebook and create a website – thus Cycling Virginia was born on January 1, 2019.

Hopefully everyone who visits this site will find it useful and will be encouraged to continue to ride, try new events, explore new communities, and meet new people who share the same passion for cycling.
