Urban Assault Race Series @ Riverdale – Roanoke, VA
Wednesday, May 21st and June 4th the Urban Assault Race at Riverdale in Roanoke, VA is a unique event unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Think equal parts bike race and offbeat street festival and you’ll begin to get the idea. Whether you’re a hard-core racer type or just looking for some laid back fun, this is a race you won’t want to miss.
The majority of the course is paved, but don’t be fooled into thinking this is a road race. There’s plenty of dirt and gravel, but it is most definitely not a gravel race. There’s even a few short sections of singletrack and grass along the way, but this is no MTB or cyclocross race. Think of it as a mixed-surface criterium with a slightly post-apocalyptic vibe – and a few quirky surprises thrown in for good measure.
There is no right or wrong bike for this race, and whatever you choose to ride, you will regret your choice at some point along the way. You’ll also have more fun than you’ve ever had racing your bike. The 3-mile course places a premium on flat out speed, mad cornering skills, and the ability to handle abrupt surface transitions. The race will take you inside several of the historic industrial buildings, giving racers a close-up view of the past, present, and future of the Riverdale development. Chip timing will be provided by MMG Endurance Sports.
Net proceeds from the event will benefit I HEART SE and PedalSafe Roanoke.
