Stokesville Gravel – Little Switzerland
This event passes through the George Washington National Forest along the North River at the edge of the Little River Roadless area on one side and Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness Area on the other. After passing over the lowest gap on the mightily Shenandoah Mountain the route turns up into the back roads of Highland County known as “Little Switzerland”.
The crux of the event is the descent down Sally Hiner a rolling gravel road that drops steeply down to the Calf pasture River twisting and winding down to its scenic bottom segment along a magical creek. A quick zigzag puts you at our support station and you begin retracing your path back over Shenandoah Mountain with a surprise detour on Leading Ridge Road that gives some super majestic view of the Shenandoah Valley before dropping you into the finish at the Stokesville Campground.
Start/Finish and parking for the event will be held at the Stokesville Campground. Use the main entrance at the YELLOW STOKESVILLE DEPOT house and follow the arrows to the left when you enter the open fields. Event parking will be in front of the Stokesville Observatory. Ride with GPS File
