Blue Ridge Gravel Classic

The Blue Ridge Gravel Classic allows riders to explore some of the best gravel roads in the foothills and peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Greene and Albemarle County, VA. There will be 48 mile and 40 mile options with both routes using approximately 50% gravel and 50% paved roads.  Gravel, cyclocoss or mountain bikes would be suitable for this event. Road bikes are not recommended. Both rides start at the beautiful Blue Ridge School, which is nestled against the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains on 750 acres of fields, trails, hills, streams, lakes and mountains.  Both rides will share the same route until mile 36. At mile 36 the shorter ride will proceed to the finish, and the long ride will climb an additional 5 miles into the mountains before returning to the finish. If you plan to do the long ride make sure to have proper gearing for 20% grades on the final climb.

There will be a fully stocked rest stop at about the halfway point and food, drinks and beer will be provided at the finish. Proceeds from the event will help support the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Central Virginia Repeater Association (Ham Radio Club) and the Blue Ridge School. This is a Non Competitive USA Cycling sanctioned event and there will be no awards or prizes but ride times will be provided to riders.
