20K or 20 miles for the Greenway – Family Ride
The 20k for the Greenway is a family-friendly non-competitive bike ride on the Roanoke River Greenway. This event encourages people of all ages and abilities to celebrate, explore, and enjoy one of Roanoke’s greatest assets—our city’s system of greenways and parks.
This event is a fundraiser for Roanoke Parks Foundation, Pathfinders for Greenways, and PedalSafe Roanoke. Enjoy a day of riding while also supporting local cycling infrastructure, rider safety, and trails.
Two distance options.
- 20k Classic Route: The 20K is the bicycle equivalent of a 5K run–which is a great goal for beginners, kids, families, folks getting back in the saddle, or anyone who wants to support cycling in our area. Riders will depart from Cardinal Bicycle, ride the Greenway to the Bennington Trailhead, and turn around and come back. Riders will have one aid station at the Bennington Trailhead where they can stop for drinks and snacks.
- 20-Mile Greenway Adventure: This is a scenic and flat car-free route along the Roanoke River Greenway. Riders will depart from Cardinal Bicycle, ride the Greenway to the Bennington Trailhead, turn around and ride to the Cook Avenue Trailhead in Salem, and then make the return trip to Cardinal Bicycle. Riders will have one aid station at the Bennington Trailhead where they can stop for drinks and snacks, and a second aid station at mile 11.
This is an un-timed ride, so if you ever feel like you need to turn around and cut it short, you can!
